Cropping, rotating, scaling with GIMP
GIMP is a free and open source graphics software, and provides a lot of functionality. In this post it is shown how to open a picture, crop the picture, then rotate it by 90°, to scale it, and then to save it.
Opening the picture

Select open Start GIMP and select open.

Selecting a pictureSelect the picture that you want to modify.

Preview of the ballot box The picture in the example shows a ballot box. At the moment, the ballot box picture has a size of 2048 x 1536 pixel. It has a size of 503 KB. The orientation of the picture is not correct.
Click to open the picture.

GIMP window displays ballot box GIMP displays the ballot box picture in a specific window.
Cropping the picture

Click the crop-symbol Click with the left mouse button the crop-symbol.

Select the area for cropping Select the area of the picture you wish to crop.

Press the crop button After the crop, the picture will have a width of 1666, and a height of 996 pixel.
Press the button to crop the picture.

Size of the picture is smaller The size of the ballot box picture is now smaller.
Rotating the picture

Rotate the picture by 90° Select the transformation menu point to rotate the picture by 90°

Picture has been rotated The picture has been rotated. The orientation of the ballot box is now correct.
Scaling the picture

Scale picture with GIMP And now it is time to scale the picture.

Width is 996 pixel At the moment, the width of the picture is 996 pixel. The picture shouldn’t be too large.

Width will be 240 pixel The width of the picture will be 240 pixel.

Press the return key Press the return key.

Future height of the picture The future height of the picture has been computed automatically. The height of the picture will be 401 pixel.
Press the button to scale the picture.
Saving the picture

Cropped, rotated and scaled The ballot box picture has been cropped, rotated and scaled.
Press the cross on the top of the window to close the picture.

Saving the picture You are now being asked whether or not you wish to save the picture before closing the window. Press the button to save the picture.
Opening, cropping, rotating, scaling, and saving the picture wasn’t difficult.
